I was born at 20 Wolfreton Road, Anlaby on 18th January 1944 and lived there for 18 years. Went to Anlaby County Primary School where Mr John Moser was Headmaster - I last saw him 2 years ago. My mother taught needlework at the school for some years. I used to play with Rodney Mason whos parents had the newsagents shop in Anlaby Common in the late 50's

I sent an E-mail to Matt Stephenson of "Hull Daily Mail", who is running a campaign backing the boundaries of Hull swallowing up my birthplace, Hessle (amongst others). In this E-mail, I told him that I wasn't born in Hull, that the Humber Bridge isn't in Hull, that Hessle was a village in Howdenshire (1892) and Haltemprice in the 1960s when I was born and that I object to being referred to as a "Hull woman". This is his reply. Gaynor We'll get you in the end! The Bridge is Hull's, Hessle is Hull's, you belong to us! Matt If you wish to correct Matt Stephenson (who, I believe, is originally from Scunthorpe), contact him at this E-mail address: mstephenson@hulldailymail.co.uk (or) matt.stephenson@hulldailymail.co.uk Thank you.

Enjoyed reading about Hessle Rd, an area father and grandparents lived. My grandmother died 1902 and the informant was her daughter residing at Branch Arms, Grimsby Lane. Has anyone heard of this pub, as I can find no trace of it.

Would anyone visiting this site please search through their 'junk' in the loft for any old photographs, film and paperwork associated with the Hull & Barnsley Railway. Myself and others are trying to amass a comprehensive historical collection for the sake of posterity. Hull & Barnsley Railway Stock Fund. Thanks.

Your comments are welcomed...

From Eddie Lawson:"I totally agree with Barbara Thompson's views (see our news section). We have just about lost our textile and mining industries, let's hope we can keep our farming and fishing and all related jobs going. In my opinion Yorkshire should be self sufficent and self governing, and if you want anything from us you ask and pay our prices.Long live the character and spirit of the Yorkshire People.

From John Arrowsmith: "I've arrived in the yorkshirepride web pages as the result of an internet search for information about a lady with a smashing voice - the country singer Tammy Cline.Unfortunately, now that I'm here I've failed to find any reference to her at all. Almost certainly that's because I'm a rotten searcher."

From Kevin Devaney re Pals Shot 'sick' soldier:
Comment: A sad story. But it is a myth about the bullets. Any soldier would know if his Short-Leigh Enfield, .303 had fired a live round.

Comment: Excellent site!I have been looking for information on Anlaby for some time, having been born in the village where now stands the bus stop across from the red lion public house. I was wondering if you had any ideas where I may purchase any old photographs of Anlaby?. On the matter of Anlaby House, I am sad to see the state that this building has been allowed to decay into...I showed my two children the grounds and the great old house that when I as a child played in the woods and the memories came flooding back of some great times,is there no one interested in surely saving such a great area?Once again thank-you for a very good informative site.
